Your Catalyst For Positive Change - Managing Stress and Anxiety

7/3/2021

Comments

Now more than ever, life can be overwhelming and chaotic if we let it get the better of us!

You feel it, right?! Chasing your tail, trying to keep up, appointments to make, people to see, stuff to do… and then there’s the anxiety and overwhelm trying to take you out!  But it’s not all doom and gloom, perhaps just the opposite!

Where Do I Even Start?
Kristy Rackham, trained Nurse, Sacred Energy MasteryTM and Therapeutic Applied PercussionTM Creator and Trainer and Holistic Health Counsellor/Coach, teaches that when illness or functional changes happen, it can be a wonderful catalyst for positive change.
Picture
As Kristy explains, “When a person struggles, it’s a great clue that there is too much stress in some area of life. Your body is infinitely wise! It's giving you an opportunity to explore your inner landscape and get clear around what supports you need for a healthier and more harmonious life”.

How Did We Get Here?
Kristy believes that at the core of all unhappiness and ‘dis-ease’ is stress. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (2016), 85% of all visits to a General Practitioner are stress related, and stress can complicate the management of chronic conditions and disabilities, limiting a person’s ability to thrive.

Stress is triggered by many external things, but the root cause is always our internal response. “The critical tone and attitude of our inner voice, unconscious beliefs and the stories we tell, these all affect the inner landscape we create. This determines whether we have a  healthy, happy and supported life, or a heavy and unhealthy one that breeds discomfort, disease and despair”.

How Can I Manage Stress and Anxiety?
Learning to manage stress and anxiety requires awareness, acceptance, and a commitment to whole-being transformation. It starts with establishing healthy boundaries and understanding our triggers, to find our ‘REAL SELF’ - the one who knows what feels good, and what we want more of. “But, we don’t know what we don’t know, and sometimes we need help to identify and shift the stuff that’s keeping us down”, Kristy says.

So, Kristy established My Holistic Nurse in 2013 to support adults and children to achieve their health, wellbeing and lifestyle goals. Her approach combines counselling/coaching, cutting-edge techniques and tools, and training to relieve stress, anxiety, fear and phobias.

If you would like some clear and actionable ways to help you manage anxiety and stress, head over to our Home Page to Download the Free 'Quick Fix Toolkit' that will help you get free of Anxiety, Stress, Fears and Phobias.

Misdiagnosis and improper treatment of fibromyalgia is rampant!

Generalised and unrelieved pain is something I battled with for years without any support from General Practitioners.  They all said there was nothing wrong with me. Nothing showed up in their multitude of tests.    You can't expect to pump a person full of medication and expect everything to be okay - you have to get to the root cause, and you have to have a proper diagnosis.

It's one of the reasons I started My Holistic Nurse. I was sick of being treated like an idiot, or worse, invisible or crazy.  I was also VERY sick and tired of feeling sick and tired and I knew I needed to find a way to feel better and reduce my pain and fatigue from a 8/10 every day, There was no one to help me with it. I had to do the research and figure it out alone.

Now my generalised pain and fatigue is gone and I am blessed with the opportunity to share what I know and help others on their journey back to health!  It's why I'm so excited about the Fibro Fix Summit.  You don't have to spend all those years trying to work out how to get well.  The summit will discuss why proper diagnosis and treatment of fibromyalgia (FM), as well as other fatigue- and pain-related disorders, is a neglected and poorly understood niche in medicine. These experts will discuss FM and the many disorders improperly labeled as FM, to provide real action steps and solutions - many of them will surprise you and many of them we advocate and specialise in at My Holistic Nurse.

WHY ATTEND?
Your host, Dr. David M. Brady, is an internationally recognized expert in fibromyalgia and a staunch patient advocate for those who have been struggling because of a medical system that is ill-equipped to deal with the problem. Join him and 30+ experts for this iconic event that could change your health and your life!

You can click here to register for the event FREE now.  The Fibro Fix Summit is online and free from June 20-27, 2016!

Or if you'd like to own all of the expert talks to watch at your own pace click here.

I would encourage all MHN followers and people with undiagnosed problems such as:
  • Body-wide Pain
  • Persistent Fatigue
  • Unrefreshed Sleep & Insomnia
  • Depression and/or Anxiety
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Thyroid and/or Adrenal Dysfunction

Registration is open now... I've already booked myself in and will be listening to as many talks as possible for FREE.  Here's the link again.

If you don't want to miss any of it, you can own all of the expert talks to watch at your own pace by clicking here now.

I’ll see you at the summit!

Childhood Trauma & Resilience: You Can Change Your Brain!

22/4/2016

By Kristy L Rackham, RN

As a child our Right Brain is the first to develop.

Why?

Well, without the conceptual, spatial function of Right Brain, we are unable to develop emotional intelligence which is defined as the ability to self regulate our emotional response to life.
Research has found that children whose Right Brain is inhibited during the first 7 years of years of life due to stress, trauma or lack of attachment to a parental figure, struggle to develop the personal qualities and abilities that enable them to bounce back from difficult life circumstances and traumas.

These kids grow to be heavily Left Brain thinkers, relying on a very literal approach to life. If only life were a series of linear, sequential events that moved in an orderly fashion – we may be better at handling life’s curve balls!

Fast Forward to Adulthood...
Without a capacity for effective Right Brain function, we struggle to bounce back from life’s challenges in a healthy and effective way. If our Right Brain is not in harmony with the Left, we can place unreasonable expectations on our life’s events - if A happens, then B will be the result. The trouble is that life doesn’t work this way!

When life does not flow in this sequential cause and effect manner - when no matter how hard we force life to fit inside the boxed thinking of expectations – disappointment and stress is sure to result. This combo can lead to an emotional tsunami that can devastate even the most intelligent Left Brained thinker!

Without a harmonised left/right brain function, we can find ourselves struggling with overwhelm, anxiety, pain, relationship breakdowns, illness, fear and frustration that seem insurmountable. Life can get the better of us and we get stuck in a downward spiral over the slightest upset to our ‘expected outcome’, unable to lift ourselves out and up to a greater life.

Outside the Square Thinking Leads To Resilience

It is the Right Brain that enables us to ‘think outside the square’ and allow for other possibilities. Our Right Brain enables us to see the shapes, colours and light that is available to us if we can recognise it! It’s strength becomes our capacity for resilience when things in life do not go our way.
The trouble is, the majority of society is built upon a preference and celebration of ‘Left Brain thinking’.

If we can access and develop our Right Brain more frequently, creating greater harmony between left and right brain hemispheres, we are far more able to manage our emotional self and effectively adapt to our changing circumstances with grace and ease.

Our ability to pick our selves up, dust ourselves off and keep on moving in a positive direction is enhanced – this is called Resilience.

I recently attended a global conference that explained the importance of our brain’s ability to utilise the Right Brain and how to develop emotional intelligence in children, to create healthy, resilient adults.

Brain Plasticity can Heal
Researches have now found that both children AND adult brains are ‘plastic’. This means that no matter how suppressed our right brain development as toddlers, we have the DIRECT power to CHANGE OUR BRAIN! What an amazing bonus… and a huge relief!

Even if we find life is a constant battle due to excessive Left Brain concepts and minimal Right Brain activity, and we find it hard to drag ourselves out of bed day in and day out when life is challenging, we can alter the neural pathways that inhibit resilience well into adulthood.

This means that even as adults, we have the capacity to further ‘grow’ our right brain and develop the ability to bounce back to a positive state and wonderful life no matter what!

Mind-Science is the Answer to Greater Resilience
How?   I knew you’d ask that!

Using mind-sciences such as Meditation, Mindfulness, EFT Tapping and Matrix Reimprinting, we can modify our neural pathways and become more resilient, reduce stress and overcome trauma.

By clearing traumas from the human neurology and energy fields, and with implementation of new lifestyle habits that support our emotional state, we can build neural highways to our Right Brain which promotes a ‘feel good’ ability and capacity for resilience when circumstances are tough! When we struggle to adapt to life’s challenges, it’s a good indication that we are utilising our linear Left Brain rather than our creative and adaptive Right Brain.

Parental Habits Create Resilient Kids
When we implement a new habit within the family that supports Right Brain development, we are engaging with our kids in an emotionally positive way. This creates a neural pathway for our children that directly helps them to access resilience as they grow older.

So, let’s do a quick personal audit of your capacity to bounce back…
  • Do you meditate daily?
  • Do you regularly engage in a creative pursuit?
  • Do you get out into nature daily?
  • Do you know how to use EFT Tapping or Matrix Reimprinting to clear historical trauma and manage daily stress?
  • Do your regular habits as a family encourage positive emotions in your household?

If answering no to any of these, I’d encourage you to adopt a new habit that instils a sense of connectedness to your innerself and your family, one that creates ‘feel good’ feelings, and do it at the same time each week or month.

Help For Families
My Holistic Nurse can work with you to develop a customised lifestyle program for greater resilience.  We can also help you to help your children.  EFT Tapping can be learned by very young children and Matrix Reimprinting works for kids over the age of 10. Alternatively, surrogacy treatment sessions through you are very effective for kids who are struggling with stress and/or trauma and are not able to attend in person..

7 Secrets No One Told Me When I Learned to Meditate

4/2/2016

Meditation doesn’t have to be hard if you understand a little about what it is, and what to expect!

I started meditating and teaching meditation at aged 20 when experiencing a spontaneous spiritual awakening and opening of my third eye.  My spiritual teachers were ‘not of this world’, and so, they were not able to help me with the nuances of a meditating human body and mind in the 3rd dimension!

For me, opening to the enormous psycho-emotional and physical benefits of meditation was easy and immediate.  However, establishing a regular practice was a little more difficult as it came with a whole host of belief systems and doctrines that no one could explain for me.  I trust that these 7 secrets that no one told me when I learned to meditate will help you hone and enhance your practice, and help you cut to the chase to get the most out of your meditations.
  1. Your body AND mind will play up.  It will wear you down like a small child on sugar and will not want to stay still for more than a few seconds before a random collection of aches, pains, itches and scratches kick in to grab for your attention. You'll probably also find that your head just won't shut up and rant on about all the things you should be doing instead!  This is all OK and perfectly normal!  It is not a sign that you’re doing it wrong or are “no good at meditation”.  In this very fast paced world of ours, we have forgotten that being relaxed and peaceful is actually our natural state.  A guided meditation can help you to focus and also teach you how to work with the body instead of against it.
  2. You don’t have to meditate like a Zen monk.  Sitting with an Indian Guru and ‘Ohm-ing’ for hours on end really also isn’t the most efficient way to make a difference to your wellbeing. Scientific studies now show that as little as 10 minutes of meditation each day will have a beneficial effect on your entire being.  It doesn’t even have to be a sequential 10 minutes. In fact, the harder you try, the more resistance you create in your body and mind.  This then contributes to greater stress levels and dis-ease!  Just relax - Meditation can be very straight forward if you let it.
  3. Meditation is not a team sport. It is an intensely personal, precious, quiet moment within your day that you get to be still and take the pressure off.  The content of your meditation doesn’t need to be shared, it isn’t a competition, and it doesn’t matter what someone else thinks of it.  This is because it comes from YOU and your unique divine expression of the Universal energy – you’re one of a kind, so please don’t judge your ‘brand’ of meditation by other people’s standards.
  4. Meditation is not spiritual Hoo Har.  It’s also not about making yourself permanently blissful and walking around in a state of eternal ecstasy (although glimpses of that is definitely possible!).  And if anyone tells you they don’t have any issues now that they’re meditating, they’re probably in denial (see the next point).  Meditation is a practical, perfectly natural method of enhancing body, brain and spiritual function getting in touch with your creative potential. From there you can take actions that bring you greater peace, strength, resourcefulness and wellbeing than you’ve ever experienced before.
  5. Meditation gives you access to the ‘real you’.  The benefit of this is that you can begin or expand your ability to live consciously, purposefully and from a truly authentic place.  For this reason, it can sometimes be very confronting and a not a little bit scary at times!  We can discover elements of ourselves that have previously been denied or hidden.  This is a BLESSING when embraced for the gift that it is!  Once seen, limitations can be cleared or transformed opening the way for a happier and more joyful life than you can possibly imagine.
  6. You can’t "do it wrong". I REALLY wish someone had told me this when I began.  I might have better spent the energy I wasted on guilt and self-punishment! But hey, that was also part of my journey!  Although Meditation is not something that you can make a mistake with, it can get faster and easier to get into a relaxed state as the body and mind remembers and recognises what you're doing!  It is also worth noting that no two meditation experiences will be exactly alike – therefore, it is impossible to judge a meditation as good or bad without limiting your experience.  Accept every meditation as it comes to you and trust that everything is exactly how it is meant to be right now for your highest evolution.
  7. There is no single BEST way or better style of meditation than another – they all have merit and purpose.  Although it can be said that certain meditation styles work particularly well for certain people, or certain circumstances.  For example, guided Mindfulness and Creative Visualisation meditation are great for first timers. Mindfulness can help to manage out-of-control thoughts, switch off the fear centre of the brain to bring about an instance physiological relaxation response, and supercharge the awareness of what's happening with your beliefs and thoughts about yourself and the world.. Creative visualisation is great for beginners as it utilises our imagination – something that is usually pretty active in most people – to imagine positive outcomes and future experiences that we wish to bring about in our life.
Sometimes, taking the first step to start meditating is the most difficult.
If you always wanted to try it, but perhaps you didn’t think you’d be able to do it, or maybe it’s not easy for you to attend a group class, you may find a private guided meditation lesson is a great place to start.

In a private session you will learn how to break through any beliefs that are stopping you from getting the most out of your meditation.  You’ll be able to hone in on any specific life challenges that is bothering you or weighing you down and get immediate relief,  and I’ll be there to guide you the whole way, which will help you to anchor your mind, reign in a restless body and really tap into your true personal power.  We also record your live guided meditation for you to keep!  A personalised meditation that is exactly customised to your needs can be used to practice your meditation skill as often as you like at home.  Better still, come to my consult room and experience meditation with me in person, or let's meet via skype if you’re somewhere else in the world!

Head over to the My Holistic Nurse facebook page and let me know about your experience with meditation.  Are you just starting out, or a seasoned meditator?  Let's connect!
