Are You Getting Enough?!

1/11/2021

Let me say it plainly upfront:  Unless you're growing your own food on the top of a pristine Andean pinnacle or a thriving virgin delta somewhere, you’re unlikely to get enough vitamins and minerals to keep your body and mind operating properly.

Without scaring your pants off (or perhaps that’s what it will take?!) most Australians are eating more fast and processed foods than ever. This stuff creates a kind of ‘nutrient starvation’ in our body which can lead to a cascade of serious health problems over time.  Unfortunately, even if eating fresh, the soils where our food is grown may also be nutrient depleted, or loaded with enough chemicals and pesticides to melt the Wicked Witch of the West before you can say ‘there’s no place like home’.

Australia is so lucky to be full of really conscious growers, but it may still be important to supplement your diet because your body’s nutrients can be depleted due to the constant stressors in everyday life.  Things like magnesium can get used up by the body faster than we’re able to replace it using food.

In this ‘age of Covid’ it is vital to keep your nutrient intake super high.  You want to build strong and resilient immunity, guard against illness and toxins of modern life, and consistently replacing essential vitamins and minerals to fight stress, ageing, disease, illness, fatigue or mental health issues.  Not to mention have the energy and vitality to keep up with the kids, perform properly at work and enjoy the life you have, here and now!

So, let’s do something about it!

To get the recommended daily required of vitamins and minerals you’d have to consume a totally ridiculous amount of fruit, vegetables, nuts, proteins and grains everyday which had been grown in nutrient rich soils and eaten within hours of being picked!  This just is not possible for most, so go with a holistic approach.

  1. Grow your own veggies in the garden or pots on your balcony - keep them chemical & pesticide free!  I LOVE my garden… it’s also great for saving cash and stress relief!
  2. Buy organic, pesticide free, or slow grown from local producers/farmers markets - There’s nothing better than cruising around Gympie’s fine Farmers Markets on a weekend.
  3. Take a therapeutic grade multivitamin or supplements as recommended. Avoid over-the-counter vitamins as most is eliminated from the body before they can be absorbed and be of any use (Click here for info about what we personally use, and check with your health professional if you’re taking medications too).
  4. Eat a fresh rainbow daily!  A balanced diet is packed with a wide variety of fresh, colourful veggies and fruit. If you're in doubt about what to eat, stick to the basics; lean meat, at least 5 cups of fresh veggies of all colours each day is a great start. If not able to get fresh, snap frozen veggies is better than none at all!
  5. Reduce your stress, have fun and get active.  Stress depletes your nutrient reserves so find ways to lighten up, laugh a little and get out into nature.

The most important thing to remember is that all bodies are DIFFERENT!!  Learn to LISTEN to your body’s unique wisdom. Be mindful when you eat of its reactions to the foods you eat and choose accordingly. It will tell you what it doesn’t like!
